 After 17 years of working within the Arts & Entertainment industry, Lorraine Merriman decided it was time to use her priceless experience and follow her entrepreneurial dream. In pursuit of start-up capital, Merriman was recommended to the Women's Business Development Center through South Shore Bank. She secured a Small Business Administration loan with the help of the Women's Business Development Center Pre-Qualification Program. Albany Bank & Trust made the $50,000 loan possible. The loan funds will be used to finance the start-up and build-out of The District, an upscale, hip, live jazz venue in the trendy West Loop Neighborhood. The venue will offer entertainment six nights a week, highlighting several local artists in the Jazz, Neo-Soul, R&B, and Pop genres. Merriman stated, “I would not have been able to do any of this without help from WBDC Finance Specialist, Kelly Smith, and the WBDC.” The District is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2002.
