Description of Opportunity: 


The Women’s Business Development Center is seeking a Director of the ScaleUp program as part of its Program Innovations Team. This will be a community leader who will be responsible for supporting and accelerating small business resiliency during and post-COVID-19. This position will require strong organizational, relationship building and problem-solving abilities. Candidates should have an understanding of Chicago’s small business support ecosystem along with training & program development experience.

About ScaleUp & the Program Innovations Team

ScaleUp is an award winning intensive 9-week cohort based curriculum that is designed to assist established Chicagoland businesses that are experiencing a no/slow growth pattern and sustainability issues due to COVID-19. Through the delivery of comprehensive and extensive business development services, ScaleUp equips entrepreneurs with the business/financial acumen, resources and tools necessary to maintain profitable businesses that retain and create jobs, fuel economic growth and build strong communities.

WBDC’s Program Innovations Team helps women business owners find new and strategic ways to serve their clients, customers, and communities. ScaleUp brings WBDC’s innovation tactics and methodology into the community, helping business owners stay competitive and relevant. This position works closely with the Women’s Innovation Network Director to ensure community businesses have the tools and tactics to build capacity and pivot quickly.

Reporting Relationship: Managing Director, ScaleUp

Responsibilities:
• Program management and implementation, including:
o Plan, develop and facilitate virtual and in-person (post-COVID-19) ScaleUp programming and services across Chicagoland
o Recruit, interview, and enroll qualified business owners in ScaleUp
o Maintain relevancy of curriculum and ensure innovation methodologies are taught to program participants through continuous improvement and periodic program revisions
o Promote ScaleUp through marketing and outreach for all ScaleUp sites
o Meet performance measures and grant deliverables for ScaleUp program delivery
o Alumni Program Management – Engage and cultivate on-going relationships and services provided to 330+ ScaleUp cohort alumni, including providing mentorship programming to alumni in partnership with NEXTLevel Exchange
• Outreach and relationship building with stakeholders, including:
o Develop a network of subject matter experts to support ScaleUp participants
o Develop relationships with community partners, local chambers of commerce, small business development centers, elected officials, banks, and local business organizations, in collaboration with WBDC leadership
o Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with ScaleUp funders
o Work with community partners to explore small business needs & priorities
o Identify partners to expand ScaleUp program and services geographic reach
• Small business advising, including:
o Support business owners by leveraging opportunities to engage with subject matter experts and corporate partners
o Manage and deliver direct services to clients including advising, workshops and programmatic events; while ensuring quality client experience and engagement
• Contribute to the overall mission and goals of the WBDC
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Program Innovations and the WBDC CEO

Skills & Qualifications:
• 5+ years of work experience
• Business degree, MBA preferred but not required
• Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred but not required
• Commitment to women’s economic development
• Experience and comfort using online platforms to facilitate online learning (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, and online learning management systems)
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• A strong understanding of Chicago’s small business ecosystem
• Experience organizing and leading workshops in communities across Chicago
• Post-COVID, must has a car and be willing and able to travel across the Chicagoland area (including across with City of Chicago and out to Aurora, IL) approximately 50% of the time

Salary Range:
