What inspired you to start your own business?
I was inspired to start Blacklisted Brandy out of a desire to create something that broke away from the expected. Traditional spirits often felt too polished or predictable. I wanted to craft a brand that embraced authenticity, edge, and individuality. Blacklisted Brandy is about more than just a drink; it’s about challenging conventions and creating a space for bold voices in the world of spirits.
What is a business milestone or achievement that you are most proud of?
One of the milestones I’m most proud of was when Blacklisted Brandy was featured in the New York Times. Receiving that kind of national recognition and being praised for our bold approach and craftsmanship was a huge moment. It validated our vision and introduced our brand to a much wider audience.
What challenges have you faced as a woman business owner, and how did you overcome them?
As a woman business owner in the spirits industry – a space that’s traditionally male-dominated – I’ve often had to work harder to be taken seriously. Whether it was being second-guessed in meetings or overlooked at industry events, I learned early on to let my work and the quality of Blacklisted Brandy speak for itself. I overcame these challenges by building a strong brand with a clear voice, surrounding myself with a supportive network, and staying unapologetically true to my vision.
What advice would you give to aspiring women entrepreneurs?
My advice to aspiring women entrepreneurs is simple: just go for it. Don’t let the way an industry looks make you feel like you don’t belong – if you have a passion that won’t leave you alone, that’s your calling. Trust your gut, believe in your vision with everything you’ve got, and don’t wait for permission to take up space. Your perspective is your power.
