Description of Opportunity: 

The Entrepreneurial Services Advisor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Women’s Business Development Center. The position will provide direct client service to entrepreneurial and established business clients through advising and workshops.

The programs and services offered provide relevant advising and training in all aspects of market feasibility, business development, finance and operations management. New initiatives and programs are always enhanced and developed to better serve business needs of clients, and/or fill gaps in service.

Reports To: Managing Director of Entrepreneurial Programs and Services


  • Assist clients impacted by COVID-19 by providing education, training, and business advising on:
    • Accessing and applying for federal resources to access capital and promote business resiliency
    • Potential effects of COVID-19 on the supply chains, distribution, and sale of products
    • Management and practice of telework to reduce possible transmission of COVID-19
    • Risks of and mitigation of cyber threats in remote customer service or telework practices
    • Mitigation of the effects of reduced travel or outside activities on small business
    • Business practices necessary to mitigate the economic effects of COVID-19 or similar occurrences
  • Develop and deliver business training programs and workshops that are responsive to the needs of the business community served
  • Assess relevancy and provide necessary tools, resources and support to ensure the success of program and service initiatives
  • Maintain current information on outside resources for clients, including business professionals, non-profit service providers, public stakeholders (SBA, DCEO, local government), and local economic development organizations/chambers of commerce
  • Coordinate services consistent with the goals and objectives of the Illinois Small Business Development Center
  • Effectively market programs to drive participation
  • Conduct outreach and promote the SBDC at the WBDC

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 4 years of progressive business experience
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Passionate about women’s issues and economic development
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA preferred
