Encourage Venture Capital Investment in Women Owned Business

July 12, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Event Navigation

Women business owners are facing a crisis in capital. Women receive only 4% of all commercial loan dollars and less than 10% of all venture capital funding.

Women Impacting Public Policy, in partnership with the City of Chicago Treasurer’s Office, 1871, and the Women’s Business Development Center invites you to join us on July 26 at 5:30 p.m. for a discussion about the importance of Small Business Investment Companies to women entrepreneurs, followed by a networking event.

Our panel discussion, moderated by WIPP President Jane Campbell with an introduction from Chicago Treasurer Kurt Summers, will cover the relationship between venture capital and women business owners— particularly focusing on how to encourage venture capital investment in women, the process of lending for SBICs, and how women business owners can approach venture capitalists. Confirmed Speakers include:

  • Treasurer Kurt Summers, City of Chicago
  • Jane Campbell, President, WIPP; Director, Washington Office, National Development Council (NDC); and Former Mayor, City of Cleveland, OH
  • Carolyn Galiette, President and Chief Investment Officer, Ironwood Capital

The panel discussion will be followed by a networking event.
