Boots To Business

Partnered with the SBA, the VBOC delivers the Boots To Business program on active military bases as part of the Transition Assistance Program. This 2-day event has been designed to introduce transitioning service members to the concept of entrepreneurship and to understand that the skills and experience they gained in the military translates directly into successful small business ownership. Other SBA Resource Partners (SBDC, SCORE, Women’s Business Centers) are included in the event delivery. Boots to Business is conducted quarterly on every active military base in the United States and its territories. Boots To Business/Reboot

Utilizing the Boots To Business curriculum, Reboot is a 1-day event, scheduled upon request, in the community-at-large. These events are open to Veterans of all eras, Guard, Reserve, military spouses and any military family member over the age of 18 who are interested in starting a business or growing an existing business. Other SBA Resource Partners (SBDC, SCORE, Women’s Business Centers) are included in the event delivery. Additional community subject matter experts (Attorney, Banker) also participate in Reboot events. The event is presented at no charge. Women Vetrepreneurship Program

The Women’s Business Development Center’s (WBDC) Women Vetrepreneurship Program (WVP), created in partnership with the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs (IDVA), is a one of a kind program for women veterans who are pursuing self-employment as a pathway to economic security. independence and empowerment. The WVP is comprised of entrepreneurial training, business advising and Veteran specific resource referrals.


GrowthWheel

GrowthWheel is a visual toolbox for decision making and action planning for startup and growth companies. It helps entrepreneurs build their businesses through a simple action oriented process that stays true to the way most entrepreneurs think and work.

Business Development Counseling

The VBOC provides one-on-one business development counseling to assist service members, veterans and their families start a small business or grow their existing business. These sessions can be conducted face-to-face (in either the VBOC’s Chicago office or with VBOC staff locally as they travel throughout the service area); by Skype; or by phone. There is no charge for our counseling services.


Assistance with Business Loans

The VBOC provides initial assistance with access to capital either to fund a start-up or expand an existing business. We are familiar with the loans programs guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration, as well as a range of alternative financing options. We can provide an introduction to our financial Resource Partners upon request.


Government/Corporate Contracting

The VBOC provides government/corporate procurement counseling and partners with the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) throughout its service area. It teams up with the PTAC for educational/networking events and refers veteran clients to the PTAC for specialized services.


Referrals

VBOC staff have access to a wide range of resources. As a convener, collaborator and connector, the VBOC can provide a warm introduction to another Resource Partner upon request.
