Katie Oberman

Owner, Good Hustle Media

Welcome to our WBE Spotlight Series! Today, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Katie Oberman, Owner of Good Hustle Media. Join us as we delve into Katie’s entrepreneurial journey and uncover the driving force behind her success in the digital marketing industry.

What inspired you to start your own business?

There’s never a ‘right’ time and I had been considering for many years but finding out I was pregnant with my third baby (surprise!) fueled the LLC filing and the start of Good Hustle Media.

What is a business milestone or achievement that you are most proud of?

Building a custom suite of automation tools that are not currently available in the OOH marketplace; these tools give GHM the ability to compete with the large players in the market (and win), but more important these tools allow us to better partner with our vendors and give our clients real time access and reporting to their OOH campaigns.

What challenges have you faced as a woman business owner, and how did you overcome them?

Society is not set up for women to be full time moms and a full time business owners – it’s infuriating… I spend a lot of time trying to crack this code, more than I’d like to admit 😉 Finding the balance between home and work and trying to manage it all is tough enough, but add in the layer of guilt for not working when you’re home or not being at home when you’re working or even working odd hours of the night from home and you’ve got a quick and easy recipe for self doubt, burnout, and imposter syndrome. I love nothing more than my children and want to spend time with them but also want to show them what it looks like to love what you do and create the life you want, inclusive of a career. Other challenges I’ve faced include but are not limited to: making stupid impulsive decisions, making stupid decisions that I spent a long time thinking about, making mistakes that cost me a lot of time, living by the “I’ll do it myself” mindset and doing too many things that I suck at instead of outsourcing them, not learning from other’s mistakes (could go back to the “I’ll do it myself” note on this one, lol) and not starting GHM sooner.

What advice would you give to aspiring women entrepreneurs?

1. Work harder and smarter than everyone else
2. Be scrappy, humble, and kind
3. Not everyone will like you, that’s okay
4. Ask for what you want
5. Expectations ruin most things
6. Remember what actually matters
7. Be self aware
8. Live by what you do, not what you say
9. Always aim to be the dumbest person in the room
10. Surround yourself with people who support you and who genuinely want to see you succeed!
