Making health behavior changes is difficult, and Laura Coulton believed that she could help people make those lifestyle changes. Having been a board-certified health coach for over 10 years and working with other companies, she decided that she wanted to open her own private practice to provide virtual health coaching. With that, Laura opened SHED Coaching LLC in January 2023. Since January, Laura has met with a WBDC advisor monthly, working in a one-on-one setting with Minerva Calatayud at the WBC Aurora. This setting has allowed her to find structure and develop important skills in building her business. Laura takes great pride in her creativity, but her education and training are in health and health care – as a result, she found that having the ability to talk to someone who has a business mindset is extremely valuable. “I really valued the structure that Minerva provided… she provided templates and tools to help me organize ideas and thoughts… and she has great business skills and advice,” Laura said.
One of Laura’s biggest wins was being able to find a client. Through Minerva’s guidance, Laura was able to hone in on the idea of who her ideal client is. This helped her get more specific about how to find her clients, and how to best provide them with the services that they need. In doing so, Laura was able to find a partner to work with to find clients to coach. Overall, Laura believes that the work the WBC Aurora does is valuable, especially the one-on-one sessions. “People pay a lot of money for business coaches,” Laura said, “It’s a huge resource I have definitely tapped into.”
