What inspired you to start your own business?
I love doing all I can to provide top notch customer service, a pleasant work environment and contributing to our community. As a business owner you can choose how you have a positive impact in all these areas.
What is a business milestone or achievement that you are most proud of?
For our first 20 years we’ve averaged 25% growth year over year.
What challenges have you faced as a woman business owner, and how did you overcome them?
People tend to think our business is just a cute little dog biscuit company. As a woman business owner I have to effectively communicate our capabilities to scale and exude confidence. This is still a work in progress for me, but everyday I set my priorities and stay focused on completing them. I take care of my physical and mental health which helps me remain confident, stable and friendly when taking care of our customers and employees. I also do my best to be at peace with and enjoy my family life. If things aren’t solid at home it’s really difficult to be successful with your business.
What advice would you give to aspiring women entrepreneurs?
Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It’s necessary, and needs to come first before you can be successful meeting the needs of your family, customers and employees.
